Welcome to QuickBites — public speaking tips and techniques you can digest in five minutes or less.

Are you getting all the speaking gigs you want? Are you speaking at the events you know you belong on? Are you being paid what you're worth? If you answered no to any of those — I have to ask why. More importantly, I believe you have to ask yourself why.

What Self-Limiting Beliefs Are Doing to You

Like everyone else, you carry assumptions and perceptions about yourself, about how others see you, and about the way the world works. Some of those assumptions are accurate. Some are not. Within them are your self-limiting beliefs — the ones that hold you back, keep you small, and rob you of your potential. They whisper that you're not good enough for the big stage. That no one will pay you to speak. That professional speaking is for someone else, not you.

Life isn't a dress rehearsal. You're not coming back to do this all over again.

What to Do About It

Start by assessing whether your limiting beliefs are actually accurate. If they're not — forge ahead in spite of them. If they do hold some truth, determine what help you need to get past them. There is plenty of help out there: books, videos, courses, coaches, organizations, and yes, even psychologists. None of these is a sign of weakness. All of them are signs of someone who takes their goals seriously.

I've seen too many people accomplish extraordinary things to believe that you cannot become a professional speaker if that's your goal. My father used to say: life isn't a dress rehearsal. You're not coming back to do this all over again. So if you want to accomplish something — do everything necessary to make it happen.
